Jon Lester Jersey. Amare Stoudemire scored 22 points, Raja Bell had 20 and the Phoenix Suns avoided their first three-game losing skid of the season with a 107-93 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night. The result against New Zealand was a bitter pill to swallow for even the most loyal Canadian fans. You dont like to see your own nation completely dominated and completely outclassed. 12 tries to 2 was a fair indication of the match and the difference between the two sides. However, our players did not quit and they put their bodies on the line time and time again. The horrific head on head collision experienced at the end of the game was clear evidence of that commitment. With the score line out of control in the all Blacks favour, Adam Kleeberger covered the width of the field, assessed the 5 meter proximity to the Canadian try line and launched himself full force to do what his country needed at that moment. This epitomised the Canadian effort throughout this Rugby World cup. They did their best at every turn. Yes their defensive technique was woeful at times on Saturday. Yes they did make mistakes in this campaign. They dropped the ball, literally and metaphorically against Japan and their mental preparation appeared unacceptable in the lead up to that crucial pool game. They played inspiring stuff in sections against France but ultimately revealed their naiveté in the closing moments of both halves. This cost them their goal of third in the pool and I know they will be very disappointed in that. For me what is most important is what Canada did not do at the difficult times. They didn`t make excuses. You didn`t hear about the challenges of being an` amateur`nation. You didn`t hear about the massive distances that separate our rugby communities. You didn`t hear about the funding they would have liked to have received. To a man they shut up and fronted up, to every challenge. Which is why when you dig a bit deeper you start to see some encouraging building blocks in place for Canadian Rugby and some ways to allow us to reach our goals and get results at the next level. The average age of New Zealand tonight was 27. Canada`s average age today was 26.7. We need to invest in these players and allow them to build on this experience. Conor Trainor crossed the whitewash twice versus the All Blacks in a full test match. In the history of the game there is a very small list who can claim that! He is raw but oh so talented and hungry for success. It is clear as day that these young pllayers now need to be exposed to more competition. Brian Wilson Jersey Rugby perhaps more than any other sport has an amazing number of variables in the make up of a match and a solid individual performance. You can simulate some elements on the training pitch, but to really learn the craft of many of the key positions on the field you need to be exposed to game situations against seasoned pros. Through competition- analysis- practice and more competition we can give Canada`s players a greater arsenal of skills to deal with the best players in the world. Last year we played Belgium, Portugal and Spain on our European tour. While these are fixtures we must play, we have to add stronger tests on top of these. Italy, Scotland and Argentina will expose us to faster and more skilled systems that will expose our deficiencies and simulate the pace of play that is required at the crucial times in Rugby World Cup pool play. So much was done after 2007 to help us be competitive. Physically, our players literally transformed their bodies so that in this cup they resembled all their opponents (France and NZ included). This was a sports science issue and we were able to address through technical input and pure dedication by our athletes. Our preparation time and unity was also excellent prior to this cup. There were even significant efforts made to allow us to scrimmage at the top level. For many, this was a major weakness in recent Canadian teams. It was only against the world number one on Saturday that this became an issue (and even then the hit was excellent but we struggled to channel the ball). We showed we could improve this technical element of the game and get it up to a certain level. On the issue of overall match readiness, simply put, our elite national team players cannot continue to play in our current domestic competitions and expect to compete at the World Cup with greater success. Whats more they can not only be exposed to top flight opposition on 4 or 5 occasions in the year. They need 20 or 30 opportunities to learn from opponents and break down their own performances. If we can keep the core of these group of 27 somethings in a Canadian jersey and expose this already committed and hard working bunch to more meaningful rugby then we will enjoy the results in England 2015.
